Friction folder for carving anywhere

I have a preference for carving with knives and I love to keep a knife a d a piece of wood with me all the time so that I can always indulge in my favoured therapeutic passtime. As most of my carving knives are fixed blades that could potentially cause me some problems here in the UK.

So for years I have been searching for a decent folding knife to carve with. I wanted the comfort and solidity of a fixed blade combined with a folding UK legal pocket knife. As yet I haven’t found the right blade profile, haft shape and general feel for me and so I made my own.

This is the result. It has a sub 3inch blade and a long tang so that I get the strength and solid feel of a fixed blade. It has a thick blade which is largely flat ground but with the final edge being a wide, shallow grind. I basically get the features I love about both a convex and scandi grind knife without the downsides.

At the moment I love the way it cuts and the feel of that large rounded haft. It opens and folds smoothly and easily and I love it. It has its imperfections and these are quite clear in the photos but then everybody has their little imperfections, it is what makes us human and I like to see character quirks in tools just as in people. This is my knife, made to fulfill a purpose and to suit my own little quirks. It does that very well.
