Those of you who have read previous posts will know that I have a real thing about Kiridashi’s. It isn’t because they are beautiful knives or anything like that, it simply comes down to the fact that I love simplicity of form and function and the kiridashi epitomizes simplicity.
This is my latest, it’s basically just a rough bit of old file that has been heated up, bashed a bit with a hammer and then had an edge ground onto it before being hardened and then honed to a razor edge.
Simple eh?
Only it really is so much more than that, for it’s size, it is probably one of the most versatile sharp edges ever. It has a sharp edge which is a tad over an inch long, it can be used for delicate detail work and for the bigger sweeping pivot cuts. and all that in a little over two inches in overall length. What more could you want?
