We are on holiday in sunny Cornwall and what better to do when it is chucking it down outside than to sit and carve a couple of little mice for Izzy and Jazzy…
Izzy’s is the one on the left.
These little guys were done very roughly, as much as a try out for my new carving knife as anything else. I find you never know how good a knife is going to be until you use it to carve something and this is an incredibly versatile blade. It just seems to work really nicely.
I’m not entirely sure if it can be called a knife or whether I should really call it a skew chisel. It’s a Kiridashi of course, chisel grind from a half round file.
Anyway, on to the mice. They are carved from some Ash that I have left over from the pruning of the big Ash tree in our old garden. it’s quite well seasoned now and carves very nicely indeed

The idea was to use the bark to give the idea of them wearing jackets, they are not intended to be detailed at all, the most detail being their little fingers and with Ash that is quite enough of a challenge.
All in all a very satisfying piece of work and the kids loved them which is always a bonus.
